Success is not worth gaining if you lose your relationship with God in the process. Never allow the pursuit of money, recognition, influence or achievement to become more important than the God who gave you life and purpose.
Scripture
Mark 8:36 KJV – “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Reflection
It is good to have dreams. It is good to work hard, build businesses, pursue education, develop your gifts and desire to make an impact. God is not against your success.1
But be careful: the pursuit of success can slowly become a substitute for God.
You can become so busy building your career that you stop praying. So determined to make money that you compromise your values. So hungry for recognition that you neglect your family and spiritual life. You can gain influence and lose intimacy with God.
Do not exchange eternal treasures for temporary achievements.2
Your success should be something you build with God, not something you pursue at the expense of God. Let your ambition remain submitted to His purpose. Let your resources serve His Kingdom. Let your influence bring glory to Him.3
Never be so busy climbing the ladder that you forget to ask whether it is leaning against the right wall.
Chase excellence. Pursue purpose. Build boldly. But never lose God while chasing success.
Today’s Prayer
Father, help me to pursue success without losing You. Keep my heart anchored in You when opportunities, wealth and influence increase. Give me wisdom to build according to Your purpose and grace to put You first in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
