God does not want us merely to possess grace; He wants us to abound in it. As we grow in faith, speech, knowledge, diligence, and love, we must also grow in the grace of giving. Spiritual maturity should touch both our character and our generosity.
“Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.” — 2 Corinthians 8:7 KJV
Paul identifies six areas in which believers should abound: faith, utterance, knowledge, diligence, love, and giving. Abound in faith until you confidently trust God; in utterance until your words communicate grace and truth; and in knowledge until you increasingly understand God’s Word and apply it wisely. Christianity must produce continuous growth.
Abound also in diligence and love. Be dependable, hardworking, committed, and excellent in what God has entrusted to you. Let your love mature beyond words into patience, forgiveness, service, compassion, and practical care. Never become so gifted or knowledgeable that you become careless about loving people.
Then Paul adds, “See that ye abound in this grace also.” Giving is a grace in which we must intentionally grow. Do not only grow in praying, preaching, knowledge, and spiritual gifts—grow in generosity! Give willingly, wisely, cheerfully, and according to your ability. Let your resources become instruments through which God’s work advances and people are blessed.
Today, I choose to abound in grace. I will grow in faith, utterance, knowledge, diligence, love, and giving. I refuse spiritual stagnation and selfish living. God is working in me to make me stronger in faith, richer in love, more diligent in service, and increasingly generous. By His grace, I will abound in every good work and in the grace of giving also!
