[Psalms 23:1‭, ‬4 KJV] “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

We have already studied that those who make the Lord their shepherd will live free from lack and the fear of evil. The Psalmist said, “the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death, I will fear no evil.” The question then is, ” how do I make the Lord my shepherd?”

  1. Be added to the Lord’s flock and a fold.
  2. Submit yourself under the elders appointed over the folds
  3. Cast all your cares upon the Lord
  4. Be sober, be vigilant, and resist the devil Steadfastly

The Bible tells us in John 10:14-161 that Jesus Christ is the good shepherd; anyone who enters in by Him becomes part of the fold. In Acts 2:40-432, the Bible tells us that those who gladly received the word; and were baptised were added to the church. You can be added to the church through faith and baptism. When you receive the word and get baptised, you are added to the church.

1 Peter 5:1-83 teaches how that we must submit unto the elders among us and to trust God with all of our cares, and to resist the devil. The devil is always trying to make a comeback and to steal, kill and destroy. This beast must be resisted. These are the four simple keys to make God your shepherd.

  1. John 10:14-16 (KJV): I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. ↩︎
  2. Acts 2:40-43 (KJV): And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. ↩︎
  3. 1 Peter 5:1-8 (KJV): The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: ↩︎
