“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:1–2 KJV

Kingdom advancement requires prayer, for the Word to spread freely, for God’s messengers to be protected, and for those who hear the truth to obey it.

The Apostle Paul understood something every servant of God must understand: the advancement of the Kingdom is a spiritual assignment that requires spiritual support. That is why he asked the Thessalonians to pray. He did not first ask them to pray for money, buildings, popularity, or comfort. He asked them to pray “that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified.”

1. Pray for The Word to Have Free Course

The first step towards kingdom advancement is to pray for the Word to go far. The Gospel must travel from one heart to another, from one community to another, and from one generation to another. We must pray that nothing will unnecessarily hinder the preaching, hearing, receiving, and spreading of God’s Word. Pray for the Word. Push the Word. Promote the Word. Pray that the Word will have free course wherever it is preached. When the Word runs freely, lives are transformed.1

2. Pray for the Messengers to Be Delivered

Paul’s second request was personal: “And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men.” The messenger matters. Missionaries, pastors, evangelists, church workers, Christian leaders and every believer who carries the Gospel need prayer. Wickedness is real. Evil is real. There are people who oppose the Gospel, attack God’s servants, deceive others, and deliberately resist what is good.2

Paul did not pretend that everyone would receive the message with faith. He said plainly: “For all men have not faith.”

Therefore, pray for God’s messengers. Pray for their safety. Pray for their wisdom. Pray for divine protection. Pray that God will frustrate the plans of wicked people and deliver His servants from unreasonable opposition. The Gospel must advance, but the messengers must also be protected.

3. Pray for Grace to Obey the Truth

There is another responsibility that cannot be ignored: we must obey the truth we have heard3. You do not have to be a signboard – pointing everybody in the right direction while refusing to go there yourself. You have to be a leader. Go ahead of the people.

Whatever you want people to hear, obey it first. Whatever you want your children to practise, practise it first. Whatever you preach to others, allow the Word to govern your own life. Kingdom advancement is not only about preaching the Word; it is also about living the Word.4

People need more than information. They need examples. Let your life becomes a demonstration of the truth you preach.5 Wickedness is real. Evil is real. Opposition is real. But more real is the power of God!6 Therefore, do not live in fear.7

Pray. Pray for the Word. Pray for the messengers. Pray for yourself – that you will have grace to obey what God has commanded. And I pray that the Lord will shield you from the wickedness in this world, preserve your life, strengthen your faith, and make you a faithful carrier of His Word.8

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, let Your Word have free course and be glorified wherever it is preached. Remove every hindrance to the spread of the Gospel. Open doors for Your Word to reach hearts, families, communities, cities and nations.

We pray for every missionary, pastor, evangelist, preacher and messenger of the Gospel. Deliver Your servants from unreasonable and wicked people. Protect them from evil, deception, violence, opposition and every hidden attack. Give them wisdom, courage and divine preservation.

Lord, give us grace to obey the truth we have heard. Help us not to become signboards that point others in the right direction while we refuse to walk in it ourselves. Make us leaders who go ahead of the people. Let our lives agree with the message we preach. Wickedness is real, and evil is real, but Your power is greater. Shield us from the wickedness in this world. Preserve our families, our lives and our assignments. Let Your Word prevail through us, and let our lives bring glory to Your name.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
