The devil does not operate in a vacuum; he works through devices, schemes, temptations, deception, and spiritual traps. A discerning believer must recognize his strategies and refuse to give him an advantage.
“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” — 2 Corinthians 2:11 KJV
Paul warns that ignorance can give Satan an advantage. The enemy works through schemes designed to deceive, divide, enslave, accuse, and weaken believers. This is why spiritual warfare requires more than shouting at the devil; it requires truth, discernment, obedience, prayer, and a disciplined Christian life.¹
In the immediate context of Paul’s warning, unforgiveness is a serious danger. Bitterness can poison relationships and divide the church. Likewise, believers must reject every curse or occult practice, break destructive addictions, flee sexual immorality, resist deception, and refuse habits that create opportunities for sin to gain influence. “Neither give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27).
Do not fight spiritual battles while protecting the very attitudes and behaviours that weaken you. Forgive quickly. Repent sincerely. Renounce ungodly practices. Guard your mind, relationships, appetites, and sexuality. Fill your heart with the Word, remain prayerful, and submit yourself to God. What you discern, you can confront; what you expose to God’s truth loses its power to deceive you.²
Don’t be ignorant of satanic devices! May God expose every scheme working against your life, family, and church. Walk in truth, holiness, forgiveness, and spiritual vigilance; resist the devil steadfastly in faith, and refuse to give him an advantage.³
- Father, expose every scheme of the enemy and give me discernment.
- Lord, cleanse my heart from bitterness, bondage, and every sinful foothold.
- By Your grace, strengthen me
