When the plumb line is faulty, the building will be faulty. When our standards are wrong, our lives will eventually reflect those wrong standards. We must continually recalibrate our lives by God’s Word.
Today’s Scripture
Revelation 3:18 KJV – “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed… and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”
Today’s Reflection
A plumb line is the builder’s standard for determining whether a wall is straight. If the measurement is faulty, the whole structure can be built wrongly. In the same way, when our standards and thinking are not aligned with God’s Word, our decisions, values and lifestyle will gradually become misaligned.
Remember therefore that, when the measuring standard is ignored or replaced with a faulty one, the building will be faulty.
There are many misleading standards around us. Society is redefining right and wrong, success and failure, purity and compromise. Faulty thinking is becoming increasingly common, and when the standard is faulty, the measurements will also be faulty.
A builder who uses a defective plumb line can build an entire structure out of alignment. In the same way, when our thinking is not aligned with God’s Word, our decisions, values, relationships and lifestyle will also become misaligned.
The Bible says, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3). The answer is to return to the right foundation.
Jesus counselled the church at Laodicea to buy eyesalve so that they could see. We also need spiritual eyesalve—the grace to see ourselves, the world and our choices according to God’s pure standards.
The earlier the Church returns to the Bible, the better. Do not allow culture to calibrate you. Let Scripture calibrate you.1
Today’s Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to see clearly. Remove every faulty standard and misleading thought from my life. Recalibrate my values, decisions and conduct by Your Word. Let Your truth be my plumb line and Your standards my foundation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
