Witchcraft is real, but the power of God is greater. Believers must not be ignorant, careless or fascinated by the works of darkness; we must remain spiritually alert and firmly rooted in God.
Scripture
Nahum 3:3–4 KJV “The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases… Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.”
Reflection
The Bible does not pretend that witchcraft and spiritual darkness do not exist. They are real, and Scripture warns us to take them seriously. Nahum describes the destructive influence of witchcraft and connects it with the corruption and destruction of nations and families.
But awareness must not become fear. The believer’s response is not panic; it is faith, discernment and steadfastness in God. Do not become fascinated with darkness, constantly searching for witches, or attributing every difficulty to witchcraft. Instead, remain close to God, walk in obedience to His Word, pray, and refuse every work of darkness.1
The devil operates through deception, but Christ has already given His people authority and victory.2 Do not fear the darkness; walk in the light.3 Do not magnify the enemy; magnify God.
Be spiritually alert. Guard your family. Guard your faith. Guard your heart. And above all, keep your confidence in the Lord.
